(Following are some exams to help you determine how creative you are, or the extent to which your creativity is blocked.)

 

Inhibited Creativity Exam 1

 

Instructions: Please answer these questions as truthfully as possible.  There’s no time limit.

 

1.  When I start to do something creative, such as writing, painting, or composing, I compare myself to others and then I lose interest.

(Scoring:  If you answer “Always” to seven or more questions or “Sometimes” to 10 or more, you may have an emotional disorder that impedes your creativity.)

 

 

Inhibited Creativity Exam 3

 

(Instructions:  Below is a drawing.  Create a story about what you think is happening, has happened, or will happen in the drawing.  Make up more than one story if you like.  You can write the story or stories on a separate sheet of paper.)

 

(Scoring:  The aim of this test is to create as many imaginative stories as possible, based on the story.  The more detailed, surprising, exciting, or humorous the stories are, the higher your score.  If you have trouble thinking of stories, or if you can only think of one story, this might indicate a block.  Also, if you create more than one story, take note of the prevalent themes.  Is there a lot of sexuality, aggression, depression, anxiety in your stories?  This may tell you something about your personality.)

 

                                               

Parenting Exam

 

(Answer “True” or “False to the following questions as honestly as possible.  An answer key follows.)

 

____1. Parenting is instinctual and doesn’t need to be taught.

____ 2. A good mother should never let a baby or toddler cry for more than a few minutes.

____ 3. You don’t have to be as careful with a baby as you do with an older child; babies don’t remember what you do to them.

____ 4. Research shows no link between inadequate parenting and social problems such as divorce, drug addiction, and crime.

____ 5. I could never do anything to hurt my baby.

____ 6. A good mother should always be willing to sacrifice her own needs for the needs of her child.

____ 7. Governments shouldn’t interfere with parenting.

____ 8. When parents punish a child, they should let the child know through their tone and manner just how angry the child made them.

____9. If you tell a child not to do something repeatedly and he still does it, you should spank the child the next time he does it and tell him he is a bad boy.

____ 10. Instead of bossing their kids around, good parents should be pals with their kids

and treat them like equals.

____ 11. If your child yells, “I hate you,” you should immediately slap him, calmly, to show  that such disrespect is not acceptable.

____ 12. If your five-year-old boy runs up to you and says, “Look, Mom, what my penis can do,” and shows you his erect penis, you should tell him, “That’s not nice.”

____ 13. Modern parents should always be permissive with their children and allow them to make their own decisions with regard to rules, curfews, and the like, in order to  encourage their individualism.

____ 14. Children do not necessarily need fathers.  A single mother can raise a child just as well as two parents.

____ 15. Parent training is an insult to mothers.

 

Scoring. The answer to all questions is “False.”  If you answered “True,” to 3 or more questions, you may be in need of parent training.
